June 1st 2008 saw the club on a road run in ‘sunny’ Warwickshire ending up at Ilshaw Heath Engineering Club. Unfortunately the actual show had to be cancelled during the week before the event itself, due to the field being water-logged from all that May rain, but the road run organised by Philip Cooper aided by Robert Pinner, went ahead, as a bit of water never stopped our P6’s before.

There was a line up of six P6’s, a Morris Traveller and several modern cars ready to take on the Warwickshire lanes and at 10.30am, we set off to follow the treasure hunt trail. But of course not before we had a bonnet up in the air and a look at an engine.

Shaun, who had travelled up from Gloucester, said he had developed a water leak in the recently replaced radiator, so this gave us a chance to have a look at his superbly presented V8 engine. Shaun also told us that he was able to get the inline fuel filter part number 606168 from his local Land Rover Dealer. They actually stocked it but according to the guy behind the counter, ’they didn’t stock anything for a P6’. So if you want to try and get one, make sure you ask by the part number for it.

Incidentally this was one of the rare outings for Robert’s Prototype 3500S, KXC 676H, a car I never get tired of looking at and it can be seen here (to the right) at the start of the run with ex-membership secretary, Caroline in the back seat with her head sticking out of the window. Anyway, Philip started everyone off at intervals but it wasn’t long before Lee in his 2000SC

was close on the tail of our 2000TC,

even though this wasn’t a race. At the end of  the hunt and road run, we found ourselves at the Ilshaw Heath Engineering Club, just in time for a very nice cuppa and piece of cake.

The guys sorted out a pitch in the centre of the tracks for us all to park up and the line up re-formed, one by one. Last to arrive was James in his white V8.

Once everyone was on site, it was time to go and play on the trains! There were a selection of different gauge lines and models on them, all running under their own ‘steam’. However some just decided to sit, relax and read the paper, like the driver of the Morris below.
