BEN LEE TYLER FILM SHOOT We were contacted by Nicholas Bartleet of Pixolloft, the producer/director and asked if we could supply a white series 1 P6. Well, could we? Well we only had 3 on the Film Data Base which fitted the bill, so yes we could. And after just a couple of phone calls, Phil Evans was ready and willing to be involved in the shoot being done around Malvern. The film shoot was over two Saturday’s in mid-November and Phil made the journey from Leek to Malvern in his beautiful white Series 1 Rover 2000 on the two days as required. Nick, the producer had previously asked me to drive the towing vehicle, which I gladly accepted to do, especially as it meant I could control how Phil’s P6 was looked after. We have MH Annable and Son (Maurice and Clive) to thank for the loan of their specialist P6 towing device, which they use daily to tow disabled P6’s into their workshop in Derby, which on this occasion, was used to tow Phil’s P6 around with. The device doesn’t need a driver therefore Phil the actor was able to concentrate on acting rather than driving. Nick the producer had cameras fixed to the bonnet and passenger door during the filming using specialist devices which do no damage to the car at all, as it all works on suction. Day one was basically 6 hours of driving around the chosen route with stops to adjust the camera positions, monotonous but at the same time very interesting to see how the shots are done to get the minute or so needed for the video. Nick the Director sets up the next shot with the camera mounted on the door, then below checks its right once we are on the move. and then another shot with the camera mounted on the bonnet. Left:- Ben gets last minute instruction Right:- the tow vehicle, tow frame and the P6 ready to roll The second day of filming saw us in a pig farm which had a driveway that resembled a stage on the RAC rally. However when you see the finished result on film, you will understand why the location was chosen. This day saw Phil’s P6 doing the grand total of about 500 yards, all day, but again you wouldn’t have thought so from the finished item. So you need to watch out for Ben Lee Tyler on the MTV music channel and on the internet at 'Would you wake up the sun!' [1] see Ben on his website at www.benleetyler.com [2]
The Rover P6 Club has been out and about again supplying cars to film shoots, this time we have been involved with the video to accompany Ben Lee Tyler’s second single “Would You Wake Up The Sun” which will be released in early 2007 on the Ivolution Records Ltd, record label.
The first day of shooting involved the actor Phil Keiman sitting in the drivers seat while the car was towed around the chosen road circuit.
The shots of the car are superb and what’s more Ben, the recording artist, sings the entire song while leaning against Phil’s P6 and this is mixed into the story line of the video itself.
